The mission of The Joy of Music is to provide exceptional music
therapy and music instruction while exceeding the expectations of those we
serve.
Elisabeth J. Tinnes, MT-BC founded The Joy
of Music, LLC in 2005 in Washington, Iowa. She has embraced music all her life
playing the trumpet, piano,
guitar, violin and dancing as a
child. It was the love of music and the way it changed how people felt that led
her to music therapy. Elisabeth
received a Bachelor of Music in music therapy and trumpet performance from the
University of Iowa in 2005 and graduated with distinction. She followed her
schooling with an internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
where she worked on both behavioral health and medical units. Elisabeth is
passionate about people and the relationships made with her clients. She
strives to provide exceptional services through Music
Therapy services, Music With Me and
music lessons. The Joy of Music currently provides
services to people of all ages and abilities in Southeast Iowa. LISTEN TO ELISABETH
Denise Coovert, MT-BC received her Bachelor
of Art in music therapy from Western Illinois University. After graduating with
honors,
she received her internship training from
Giant Steps of Illinois, a school for children with autism in the Chicago area.
Denise has extensive training in voice and is also experienced in piano,
percussion, guitar and violin. After earning her
board-certification in music therapy, Denise began her career at the Joy of
Music, LLC in 2008. Here she works with a diverse population including hospice
patients, children with autism and developmental delays as well as younger and
older adults with a variety of needs. In her free time Denise enjoys
scrapbooking, watching movies and shopping. Denise's
passion for music therapy resides with school-aged chldren and she hopes to
empower local schools to incorporate music therapy into their curriculum.
Matt Logan, MT-BC graduated with distinction from The University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy, and an emphasis in Jazz Studies. He completed his internship at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he worked with a wide range of clients. He is a passionate guitarist, and enjoys performing with his band and other musical acts. Matt finds joy in spending his time with friends and family. He is a big fan of Hawkeye Football and has many fond memories of watching the Hawks win in Kinnick Stadium. Matt feels especially comfortable working with the elderly. He finds their stories and reflections to be fascinating, and it brings him great joy to facilitate music making, reminiscence and discussion. As a music therapist, it is Matt's mission to improve the quality of life for everyone he encounters.
